Manifesto

The first dose was free

Now they raise the price, then they lock the door.

That is how this always starts. The first line of cocaine is a gift. You do not pay because they are not selling you the powder. They are selling you the need.

The model was the same gift. You write with it. You think with it. You stop being able to do the work without it. Then the price moves. Then the model that was open is not. Then someone decides what you are allowed to ask. Then someone decides who is allowed to ask. Then there are a few doors, and they have the keys.

You already know this sequence. Mail did it. Search did it. The feed did it. Intelligence is next, and it is further along than it looks.

A public good does not begin as a product. Electricity did not. When it showed up it was a fact about the world: light, heat, motion. And the fight was whether a handful of men would meter the dark. They tried. People built grids anyway. The ones that lasted were the ones you could plug into without asking a landlord for permission to think at night.

The internet was meant to be that kind of thing. End to end. Anyone can speak. Anyone can host. No one in the middle owns the packet. We got something else: five companies, a login, a terms of service, a switch they can throw. The wire is still there. The idea was abandoned because it was inconvenient for capture.

AI is the same fight, earlier, while people still remember the free hit. That is the only advantage we have. Use it.

Intelligence is not a brand. It is not a subscription. It is not a safety briefing attached to a throne. It is a public good, like current in the wall, like a packet on the wire, and public goods that stay public have to be open and unrestricted, or they become someone else's rent.

Closed weights are not safety. They are a valve. Rising prices are not the market discovering value. They are the hook completing. Content filters that only run in one company's cloud are not morals. They are control. “API access” that can be revoked is not access. It is a leash.

If only a few can use it, it was never given to you. It was demonstrated.

So we do not ask them to be kinder. We do not wait for a steward. We run it the way the internet was meant to be run.

You hold a key. You pick a machine. You send a job. You get bytes and a hash. Nobody in the middle reads the prompt. Nobody can close your account, because there is no account. A worker is someone's computer, not a product team. If you have GPUs you are not an applicant. You plug in. If you want it local, it stays in the room. If we disappear, the machines keep talking.

Plug in. Walk away. A head office does not get to kill the lights. That is how electricity stayed a public good. Inference has to work the same way: open, unrestricted, yours to run.

The first dose was free. Do not confuse that with generosity.
